Low Testosterone Trial

A clinical low testosterone trial began to test the hypotheses that testosterone treatment of elderly men whose serum testosterone concentrations are unequivocally low – and who have symptoms and objectively measured abnormalities in at least one of five areas that could be due to low testosterone (physical or sexual function, vitality, cognition, and anemia) – will result in more favorable changes in those abnormalities than placebo treatment (the trial began in 2009).

The low testosterone trial is using the drug AndroGel® (testosterone gel).  In addition, two additional trials have been incorporated into the low testosterone trial.  The low testosterone trial will also study:

Recently, the Endocrine Society called for more low testosterone studies to be conducted in low T or low testosterone therapy because it may be causing problems in men.

The call for more low T or more low testosterone studies is based on the recent studies (see Low T Lawsuit ) published by NIH and the VA.  These low testosterone studies raised concerns that low T therapy or low testosterone therapy may possibly be linked to cardiovascular events in men.

In addition, the FDA started to investigate low testosterone Low T therapy.  The FDA investigation involves recent reports that Low T therapy may be associated with a possible risk of stroke, heart attack, and death in men taking FDA-approved testosterone products (e.g., androgel etc).

Some of the potential problems that may be caused by low T or low testosterone therapy may include:
