Researchers have published an article about a potential protein vaccine for mesothelioma and other cancers e.g., ovarian cancer.
The protein vaccine for mesothelioma is a protein-based immunotherapy that induces anti-tumor immune responses in potential cancers.
It appears that the researchers in the protein vaccine for mesothelioma study “developed a novel immunotherapeutic agent that links a single-chain antibody variable fragment targeting mesothelin (MSLN), which is overexpressed on ovarian cancer and mesothelioma cells.
The bottom line appears to be that the researchers feel that the potential immunotherapy protein vaccine for mesothelioma cancer “has the potential to be cost-effective and broadly applicable to tumors that overexpress mesothelin” like mesothelioma and ovarian cancer.
Malignant (cancerous) mesothelioma – which has been closely linked to or is caused by exposure to asbestos fibers is a horrible and devastating rare form of cancer that occurs in the mesothelium – a thin protective layer of tissue that covers the majority of your internal organs.
People who develop this rare form of cancer were most likely exposed to dangerous asbestos fibers while working in various industries to support their families. It is common for the development of mesothelioma to occur 20 or sometimes even 40 to 50 years after initial exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos fibers have been used in the manufacturing of a wide variety of industrial and household products in the United States and around the world.
