As earlier as 1995, researchers were writing about the asbestos in Kent cigarettes with the micronite filters. Since that time, several mesothelioma lawsuits in connection with the Kent cigarette and the micronite filter have been decided or filed. (search this site for Kent)
In this report from 1995, the researchers found that “The original version of the Kent Micronite cigarette filter used crocidolite, a form of asbestos, from 1952 until at least mid-1956.” And, the researchers opined that there observations suggested “that people who smoked the original version of this cigarette should be warned of their possible substantial exposure to crocidolite during the 1950s.”
Unfortunately, asbestos has been linked to mesothelioma. And, if the asbestos was in Kent cigarettes, that may be the cause of mesothelioma that these Kent cigarette smokers are being diagnosed with today.
